Nanofibers in the fabrication of functional footwear materials

Nanofibers and the production of nanofibrous materials, especially through electrospinning, occupy a significant place in the scientific world due to their unique properties, i.e., versatile fields of application. Generally, the field of functional textiles is the one where the fabrication of shoes can be classified. This paper gives a brief overview of the fields of application of the nanofibers in the fabrication of shoes, including piezoelectric materials, directional water vapour transport materials and finally, an example of a commercial product incorporating nanofibers. Although the number of studies concerning these materials is somewhat modest compared to ones related to clothing, this certainly does not diminish their significance.
