Thermophysiological wear comfort of footwear

An overview of the methods to characterize wear comfort of footwear with a more detailed description of the method to determine thermal and water vapour resistance of leather, footwear and knitted fabrics for socks on hot plate and thermal foot manikin is given. Some of the measurement results of thermal and water vapour resistance of footwear and socks on thermal manikin are given as well. The authors examined the wear comfort of by use of different objective and/or subjective methods using different techniques. When using direct measurement methods of temperature and RH, sensors are placed on different places,such as on thermal foot manikin, bare foot and sole. Foot-size measurements are taken with the 3D foot scanner at places where shoes are sold. Smaller databases of foot-sizes for larger populations are created.
